What Makes Maybank eVibes Credit Card Stand Out

Tertiary students and NSF men between 18 to 30 years old can earn top rates on all spend with Maybanks eVibes Card–perhaps the best student card on the market. Cardholders earn 1% cash rebate on all spend without merchant or category restrictions. There’s also no minimum spend requirement or cap on earnings. Most student cards offer the equivalent of 0.25% to 0.4% rebate, so Maybank eVibes Card is a great way to maximise earnings.

Another benefit is access to the Maybank TREATS program. Cardholders can enjoy discounts up to 20% off dining and entertainment, plus deals on health & wellness, online retail, travel and more. While there is no formal rebate structure, students can still enjoy promotional savings with a variety of merchants.

Low income working adults are not eligible for Maybank eVibes card, however. Cardholders must be current students or NSF men. Young adults with low incomes may qualify for, and be interested in a card like CIMB AWSM Card. Existing Maybank eVibes Cardholders, on the other hand, can continue using their cards after turning 30 years old.

Ultimately, Maybank eVibes Card offers students and NSFs and excellent way to earn cashback on all spend. Because the S$5 quarterly service fee is waived 2 years, and then as long as the card is used at least once every 3 months, consumers can also easily avoid paying a fee. Altogether, cardholders can earn on all their spend, maintenance-free, at one of the highest student rates on the market.

Maybank eVibes Credit Card v. CIMB AWSM Card

      CIMB AWSM Card
      CIMB AWSM Card
Consider this if you earn S$18,000 and S$30,000 per year and are below the age of 35
      • Pros
        • Students, NSFs & low-income consumers earning less than S$30,000/year
        • People with high spend on dining, entertainment, online shopping & telco
        • Individuals interested in discounts & deals in Indonesia and Malaysia
        • Cons
          • Individuals who earn more than S$30,000/year
          • People who tend to eat in, and prefer to shop offline
          • Young adults looking for cashback on their utilities spend

Like Maybank eVIbes Card, CIMB AWSM Card offers unlimited 1% rebate with no minimum spend requirement–however, cashback is category-limited to dining, entertainment, online shopping & telco. A bigger difference is that CIMB AWSM Card is one of the few cards available to low income working adults, who aren’t eligible for most student cards. These individuals can greatly benefit from CIMB AWSM Card’s respectable rate, with no annual fee. Maybank eVibes Card, however, offers a more flexible option for students and NSF men.

Maybank eVibes Credit Card v. Citi Clear Card

          Citi Clear Card
          Citi Clear Card
Consider this if you frequently visit Starbucks and Subway
          • Pros
            • Great for student/young adult budgets
            • Good rewards at Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway
            • Cons
              • Not suitable for salaries above S$30,000/year
              • Lacks rewards on education and bills

Citi Clear Card offers students and NSFs the opportunity to earn 0.4 miles per S$1 spend–roughly equal to 0.4% cashback in value-to-consumer. While return value may be lower than Maybank eVibes Card’s, Citi Clear Card is the only student card to offer a rewards alternative to cash rebates. In addition, cardholders can access dining discounts through Citi Gourmet Pleasures, adding significant value for students who frequently eat out.

Maybank eVibes Credit Card v. DBS Live Fresh Student Card

              DBS Live Fresh Student Card
              DBS Live Fresh Student Card
Consider this if actively like to shop on e-commerce sites and make purchases with mobile payments
              • Pros
                • 5% rebate on select merchants & 5% rebate on sustainable spend
                • No minimum spend requirement
                • Annual fee waived 5 full years
                • Cons
                  • Just 0.3% rebate on general spend
                  • otal rewards capped at just S$50/mo

DBS Live Fresh Student Card is a great option for students in terms of convenience because it works as an all-in-one card with EZ-Link functionality. The fee is high (S$128.4), but is waived for 5 years. One of the downsides, however, is that spend earns just 0.3% flat cashback, compared to 1% rebate with Maybank eVibes. DBS Live Fresh Student Card may be a preferable option to students who are frequent commuters, but Maybank eVibes card does a better job of rewarding consumer spend.
