Maybank World Mastercard is easily the best credit card in Singapore for golfers. That's because it provides its cardholders complimentary green fees all year around at 79 world-class fairways in 15 different countries, by far the best deal available for golfers in the country. Not only that, it comes with mile and cash back rewards to cover a golfer's every major expenditure area: dining, petrol and travel expenses. Though this card comes with a relatively high annual fee of S$240, Maybank World Mastercard's benefits are more than valuable enough for people who golf at least once or twice a month. In this review, we will break down the main features of the Maybank World Mastercard to help you decide if this is a credit card worth your while.
What makes Maybank World Mastercard Stand Out
For avid golfers who like to try out different golf courses around the world, Maybank World Mastercard is undeniably the best rewards credit card to get. First, it leads the market in terms of diversity of golf courses and number of green fee waivers it provides. With 79 golf clubs available through its offerings and 2 monthly complimentary green fees (i.e. 12 annually), it is far more valuable than most other cards that either limit the number of complimentary green fees to around 6 or only grants complimentary green fees at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore. Even the cardholder's guests also get 10% savings on their walk-in rates. All you need to do to qualify for these perks is spend S$1,000 on the card the month prior to your golf session.
Golfers who like to golf both in Singapore and abroad will also appreciate the 19.1% discount (15.1% discount + 4 miles) that Maybank World MasterCard offers on petrol and the up to 20% discount on accommodation at SPG hotels. Not only that, this card also comes with a complimentary VIP access to JetQuay to make your trips abroad even easier. To round things up, Maybank World MasterCard throws in another 4 miles (or 10 points) earned for every dollar you spend at select dining and retail establishments in Singapore. All of these benefits come at a great value, as this card's S$240 annual fee is automatically waived for the first year, while other luxury miles cards with golf benefits generally cost $500 to S$600.
Despite these great qualities, the Maybank World MasterCard lacks versatility, awarding only 0.4 miles for every S$1 spent on anything besides the aforementioned category. Therefore, consumers who do not golf will not find too much value in this card. However, with green fees easily costing S$100 or more at a time, golfers can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars every year by using this card. Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card has made our 2017 editor's picks for Best Travel Credit Cards, Best Entertainment Credit Cards and Best Petrol Credit Cards.

How does Maybank World MasterCard Compare Against Other Credit Cards?
To help you get an idea of how the Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card performs against the competition, we provide the following side-by-side comparison of this card with other leading shopping rewards credit cards.
Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card vs Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Credit Card
The Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Card is one of the best high end credit cards in Singapore. Given its market leading 3 miles per S$1 spent overseas, we think this card is the best fit for business travelers who spend a lot of time abroad. For local spending, it provides 1.4 miles per S$1, which is still one of the best offers in the country. In terms of golf privileges, however, it is not as good as Maybank World MasterCard. Standard Chartered Visa Infinite provides all year round complimentary green fees at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, but nowhere else.
Therefore, the choice really comes down to one question. If you prefer to get complimentary green fees at a variety of golf clubs at the cost of less mile awards and bonus perks, Maybank World MasterCard is the better choice without a doubt. On the other hand, if you prefer to receive more benefits at the cost of playing at only one golf club, Standard Chartered Visa Infinite will provide a much richer and more diverse set of benefits.
Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card vs Citi Prestige MasterCard Credit Card
Citi Prestige MasterCard is one of the best high end credit cards in Singapore because it combines a rich set of mile rewards with luxurious perks like unlimited lounge access and complimentary SPG gold status. In terms of golf privileges, it is somewhat of a compromise between Maybank World MasterCard and Standard Chartered Visa Infinite: it provides 6 complimentary green fees per year at about 10 golf clubs in the region. Therefore, we think this is the best choice for affluent consumers who want the luxurious travel perks we mentioned while also enjoying a few number of golf clubs.
Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card vs Citi PremierMiles Visa Card
The Citi PremierMiles Visa Card is one of our favorite travel cards for the average consumer. It is a very versatile card that differs from the Maybank World MasterCard Credit Card in that it awards a flat 1.2 miles for every S$1 spent locally on anything, and 2 miles for every S$1 spent overseas. For consumers balking at the limited utility of the Maybank World MasterCard in areas other than golf, the Citi PremierMiles Visa Card may be the perfect solution. If you don't golf as much, this card will allow you to earn great air miles rewards through your spending on categories such as petrol, groceries, entertainment and dining. Travelers hoping for perks can look forward to its complimentary travel insurance and up to 40,000 bonus air miles over 2 years. However, Citi PMV Card does not come with any golf privileges to speak of.
*ValueChampion calculates the dollar value of rewards based on S$2,000 of monthly spending.
