Highlights of SingLife Cancer Insurance: What You Should Know

SingLife's cancer insurance plans cost above average while providing similar or less benefits than other plans on the market, making them difficult to recommend for budget-constrained or value-seeking consumers. SingLife offers 2 different cancer insurance policies–Cancer Insurance Plan Series 1.1 and Cancer Insurance Plus Plan Series 1.1. While both are similar in certain aspects, like coverage options and coverage limit, they do differ in their benefits and premiums. Both plans offer 3 types of coverage–S$60,000, S$80,000, and S$100,000. As far as Singlife's benefits and payouts go, the regular insurance plan pays 100% of the sum assured only when the policyholder is diagnosed with late-stage/major cancer. Whereas their Plus Plan pays 25%, 50%, and 100% of the sum assured for early, intermediate, and late-stage diagnoses respectively.

Plan Series 1.1N/AN/A100% Sum Assured
Plus Plan Series 1.125% Sum Assured50% Sum Assured100% Sum Assured

Unlike many other insurance policies that offer coverage up to S$200,000 to S$300,000, SingLife only offers a maximum of S$100,000 worth of coverage for both plans. Furthermore, you will have to pay 15% to 37% more for the Plus Plan to get the 100% payout at all cancer stages on top of premiums that are already 1% to 77% above average. This is unlike most other cancer insurance plans on the market that provide a 100% payout for cancer diagnoses at any stage in their base plan. Thus, we recommend FWD or Great Eastern for those who are looking for high levels of coverage for a fair price.

Policy Exclusions & Eligibility

Before purchasing one of SingLife’s policies, consider some of their eligibility requirements and exclusions.

In order to qualify for a policy, an applicant must be:

  • Between 18 and 65 years old
  • A permanent Singapore resident or a foreigner holding an Employment Pass, Dependent Pass, Long Term Visitor’s Pass, S-pass, or EntrePass

For both major and all cancer benefits, SingLife will not cover any claim that is directly or indirectly caused by:

  • A self-inflicted injury
  • The influence or deliberate misuse of drugs/alcohol
  • A pre-existing condition

It is also important to note that there is a waiting period of 90 days after the start date of the policy. This means that SingLife will not pay any benefits if the life assured is diagnosed with any stage of cancer within 90 days of starting their policy. Additionally, SingLife will not pay any claims if the life assured dies within 7 days from their diagnosis.
