Average Cost of Household Appliances in Singapore 2024

Whether you're a homeowner considering a renovation or a renter seeking to furnish your first flat, it can be helpful to have an idea of how much appliances should cost. To help consumers create a budget for their new appliances, we researched and analysed pricing data for popular home appliances. We analysed the prices of the top appliance brands and models available in the country.

Average Cost of Refrigerators in Singapore

The average price of refrigerators tends to be correlated with the fridge's size in terms of volume. For example, we found that the average cost of a medium-sized fridge (300-400L) is approximately S$1,385, while the average price of a large refrigerator (400-500L) is about S$2,134. Similarly, larger refrigerators tend to cost more in terms of electricity usage. However, data from the National Environment Agency suggests that very small fridges (100-200L) tend to be less efficient, on average.

We reviewed pricing for more than 130 models refrigerators from 16 top brands (Ariston, Beko, Bosch, Electrolux, EuropAce, Fisher & Paykel, Hitachi, LG, Midea, Panasonic, Samsung, SHARP, SMEG, Teka, Toshiba and Whirlpool). Using data from the National Environment Agency we were also able to estimate the average annual energy cost by model and refrigerator size.

Average Cost of Clothes Dryers in Singapore

We also found the average cost of clothes dryers varies significantly. With dryers, machine type tends to be a key indicator for price. We found that air-vented dryers tend to be significantly less expensive in terms of price (S$872) compared to condenser dryers (S$1,120). However, using data from the NEA, we found that air-vented dryers are approximately 33% more expensive in terms of annual electricity costs, on average.

In order to determine the average cost of a clothes dryer in Singapore, we analysed pricing data for 55 models from 15 brands (Ariston, Beko, Bosch, Brandt, Candy, ELBA, Electrolux, EuropAce, Fisher & Paykel, LG, Midea, Samsung, Tecno, Teka and Whirlpool). We were able to estimate the average annual energy cost by analysis data from the National Environment Agency.

Average Cost of Clothes Washing Machines in Singapore

Our research indicates that the average price of a washing machine is approximately S$759 in Singapore. We analysed pricing data for 30 of the most popular washers from 10 top brands, including LG, SHARP, Samsung, Panasonic, Bosch, Beko, Electrolux, Europace, Elba and Hitachi). We found that several washing machines cost more than S$1,000, although a handful of popular models cost less than S$400.

Average Cost of Dishwasher in Singapore

We estimate that the average cost of a dishwashing machine is about S$1,043. We found that a few dishwashers go for more than S$1,500, but that most cost somewhere between S$600 and S$1,000. We estimated the average price by looking at pricing data for 30 of the most popular dishwashers from 10 different brands including Bosch, Tecno, Elba, Electrolux, Beko, Brandt, Europace, Samsung, Hanil and Fisher & Paykel.

For those that are overwhelmed by seeing the average price of appliances in Singapore, it's important to note that there are ways to trim your budget, without sacrificing comfort in your home. First of all, when shopping for appliances, we found that stores often offer sales either online or in-person. Therefore, it pays to shop around before choosing an appliance. Similarly, homeowners can save by comparing financial products, just as they would compare appliances. For example, our research indicates that the cheapest home loans cost 20% less than the market average, which could save you thousands of dollars each month. Additionally, those who are hoping to renovate their home can save hundreds of dollars in interest costs just by choosing the most affordable renovation loan. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you compare prices of these and any other financial products before signing up.
