Wise Traveller's annual travel insurance plan is a great value for those who frequently travel to various destinations all over the world. In general, we think this plan works best for people who need to fly at least 4-5 times annually, like business travellers. However, it may not be suitable for casual travellers who don't travel frequently, senior travellers who are older than 65 or sports enthusiasts who need medical coverage for injuries from adventurous activities.

Wise Traveller's Insurance: What You Need to Know
Wise Traveller Secure Insurance is a great value plan for those who are looking for annual travel insurance coverage for any international destinations. If you are a frequent traveller, you will benefit from its lower than average prices for annual plans, whether you are traveling to ASEAN, Asia or globally. In fact, its Asia Pacific and Global plan costs of S$120 and S$188, respectively, are both some of the cheapest annual plans available—around 45% below the market average for basic plans. The majority of its coverage focuses on basic medical coverage and inconvenience coverage for things such as travel delays, loss of documents and cash.
Wise Traveller insurance stands out with its highest ratio of benefits per dollar of premium for annual plans. For example, their medical coverage of S$312,000 is higher than the industry median of S$300,000 and their trip cancellation coverage of S$10,500 is higher than the industry average of S$10,092. Wise also has S$10,500 coverage of trip curtailment and interruption due to force majeure reasons such as natural disasters and civil commotions. The rest of the coverage like car rental excess and lost or damaged luggage is around the industry average, making it a solid plan to consider even when you compare it to higher-tiered options. Due to this, we recommend this plan to individuals and families who travel more than 4 times every year, whether for work or leisure; you will be getting comprehensive basic coverage that will cover you in the majority of cases while paying a great price.
The most notable negatives of Wise Traveller insurance is that it limits coverage to those under 65. Wise also offers below average coverage for travel delay reimbursement, doesn't cover sports activities such as skiing and high altitude trekking and doesn't cover you in the event of terrorism, making it not the best choice for the adventure-seeking traveler or those going to riskier countries. This in addition to those who need coverage for niche medical conditions or pregnancy, as Wise doesn't provide coverage in those areas.
It's important to highlight that the Wise Traveller isn't an insurer—it's a membership organisation that maintains a relationship with Allianz Global Assistance. This means that when it is time to submit a claim, you will be submitting one with Allianz, not with Wise Traveller. However, there are some perks to being a member, including private discounts at over 150,000 hotels and member only promotions.

Wise Traveller has a lengthy list of exclusions that are fairly standard for the most part. You will not be able to submit claims arising from pre-existing conditions, not wearing appropriate protective clothing, travelling against advice of a doctor, travelling for medical reasons or if your claim is related to the death or illness of anyone over 65 who is not listed under the insurance policy.
|Medical Exclusions||Trip Inconvenience Exclusions|
|Medical Expenses for pre-existing conditions||Engaging in sport for compensation|
|Pregnancy-related events||Items taken by customs officials|
|Suicide and mental illness||Baggage sent separately or items left unattended|
|Cosmetic or elective surgery (unless necessitated by injury)||Fragile articles|
|Travelling when you are medically unfit||Inability to travel due to business or contractual obligations|
|Mandatory quarantine||Pandemics or epidemics, unless otherwise stated|
Wise Traveller doesn't offer much for the sports and adventure enthusiast. It doesn't offer any coverage for your sports equipment, and you won't be covered for a plethora of activities including skiing, open water sailing (past 10 nautical miles), playing polo, mountaineering, rock climbing, parachuting and hang gliding. You will be covered for gentler activities like racing (on foot) and hiking.
You can submit your claims online through Allianz Global Assistance's online portal. You should make sure you have your Wise Traveller member number and all supporting documents. If you are submitting a dental or medical claim, you have to mail the original documentation and a copy of the acknowledgement email to Allianz.
