Amex True Cashback vs UOB One Card
UOB One is likely the best flat-rate cashback card in Singapore. For people who can monitor their expenses closely, it can earn up to 5% cashback on all expenditures, a much higher rate than 1.5% from Amex True Cashback. The only downside of the card is that its cashback is capped at S$100 per month while Amex True Cashback does not have a limit. It could also be rather complicated to use, because to it awards different rate of cashback for people who spend at least S$2,000 monthly and for people who spend at least S$1,000 monthly. Hence, for people who are willing to take the time to make sure to maintain S$2,000 of expenditure every month, UOB One is the best way to go.
Amex True Cashback vs ANZ Optimum World
ANZ Optimum World MasterCard card is a flat rate cashback card with a slight twist. It allows the customer to choose a category every quarter, and awards 5% cashback for that category for the quarter. All other purchases qualify for 1% cashback. The four optiosn from ANZ Optimum include dining & leisure, travel, shopping and groceries. ANZ Optimum could be a nice supplementary card to other rewards cards given its flexibility and lack of minimum spend requirement.
Amex Krisflyer vs Citi PremierMiles Card
Citi PremierMiles card may be a better choice for an average consumer who is willing to jump through more hoops to enjoy travel perks. It has a better award rate of 1.2 miles per S$1 spent locally and 2 miles per S$1 spent overseas, plus an awesome welcome bonus of 30,000 miles. While Amex KrisFlyer card is quite limited to Singapore Air and its subsidiaries, Citi PremierMiles Card’s Citi Miles can be redeemed with many travel companies under Star Alliance, Sky Team, Hilton Hotels and IHG. Therefore, we think Citi PremierMiles is a much better travel card for those who are comfortable with the miles redemption process.
Amex KrisFlyer vs DBS Altitude Visa Signature Card
DBS Altitude is another great travel card for average consumers who are happy to forgo Citi PremierMiles card's bonus awards in exchange for annual fee waiver. Its awards are actually identical to Citi PremierMiles Card except for three things: travel miles, annual fee and welcome bonus. DBS Altitude offers 3 miles per S$1 spent on online travel bookings while Amex KrisFlyer or Citi PremierMiles only offer 1.1-1.2 miles. Furthermore, DBS Altitude waivers the S$195.6 annual fee if for anyone who can spend at least S$25,000 annually. Hence, we recommend DBS Altitude for average consumers who value annual fee waivers over rich welcome bonus miles.
Amex KrisFlyer vs ANZ Travel Visa Card
ANZ Travel Visa Signature Card is great for people who frequent Australia or Singapore. For these people, it’s almost impossible to beat the 2.8 miles spent in Australia or New Zealand, or on Qantas Airways and Jetstar Airways. ANZ Travel card also earns you a great flat rate of 1.4 miles on your local spend, which is much higher than 1.1 miles offered by Amex KrisFlyer card. As with most other mile programs, every mile is transferrable 1 for 1 to Asia Miles or Krisflyer Miles, with small fee of S$25 and some processing time.
*ValueChampion calculates the dollar value of rewards based on S$2,000 of monthly spending. We sum the value of points, miles and cashback in dollar terms and subtract the annual fee over a 24-month period. The estimates here are ValueChampion's alone, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.
