How to Choose the Best Petrol Card for You
The best petrol card is one which maximises the rewards you can earn while you use it. Based on an average monthly spend of S$2,000, we analysed the 2-year total rewards value of each card in Singapore, with a focus on cards that offer strong rewards on petrol spending. However, it's also useful to know which cards earn high rewards in categories other than petrol. The graph below illustrates our top petrol card picks from that perspective.
Keep in mind that we excluded intangible card perks like lounge access from our calculations because it's often difficult to assign a definite value to those benefits. That said, the strongest credit cards for petrol spending tended not to offer many such perks compared to travel-oriented cards.
Frequently Asked Questions
The best petrol card for you will depend on a few factors, but in general our analysis found that credit cards like UOB One, Citi Cash Back, and POSB Everyday deliver up to 20% or more in fuel savings at specific stations. You should compare such cards and find out which ones offer the best savings at the petrol stations you find most convenient.
The UOB One card offers the highest fuel discount we've found in our research, most recently offering up to 28.72% savings at Shell stations. However, banks occasionally adjust their credit card rewards rates, so it's a good idea to keep an eye out for any changes among the top cards.
The OCBC 365 Credit Card offers up to 22% savings on fuel purchases at Caltex, making it one of the strongest options if you prefer topping up at Caltex stations. It also offers nearly identical savings at Esso and a relatively high monthly cap on rewards earning, allowing up to $80 per month in total rewards.
The Citi Cash Back Credit Card offers up to 20.88% fuel savings at Esso. It also offers up to 20.88% savings at Shell. All other Citi Credit Cards, in comparison, only offer up to 14% savings at Shell and Esso stations.
